Command Palette
The Command Palette is Praxi's universal action launcher. Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) to open it from anywhere in the app.
Opening the Palette
- Keyboard shortcut:
Cmd+K/Ctrl+K - Click: The search icon in the navigation rail (sidebar)
Searching for Actions
Start typing to search across all available actions. The palette searches:
- Action names (e.g., "Create Client")
- Keywords (e.g., "patient", "new", "add")
- Descriptions
Synonyms
The palette understands synonyms. Searching "patient" will find "Create Client", and "bill" will find "Create Invoice".
Executing Actions
- Search for an action or browse by category
- Select it with Enter or click
- If parameters are required, fill them in the inline form
- Press Enter to execute
Favourite Actions
Star up to 9 actions for quick access:
- Starred actions appear at the top of the palette
Undo
After executing a reversible action, a persistent toast appears at the bottom of the screen with an Undo button and a countdown timer. The undo window varies by action type:
See Undo & Recovery for the undo window each action category allows.
Readiness Badges
Some actions may show a Beta badge, indicating they are functional but have not completed full end-to-end validation. Beta actions are safe to use but may have limited undo support or guidance.
Actions that depend on external integrations (e.g., Medicare claiming) show a readiness indicator:
- Ready -- all dependencies met, action will execute immediately
- Setup Required -- a prerequisite integration or setting needs configuration first
- Unavailable -- a dependency is offline or your subscription tier does not include this action
Approval Workflows
Actions marked with an Approval badge require authorisation before they execute. When you trigger an approval action:
- The action parameters are captured
- An approval request is created and routed to the appropriate approver
- You receive a notification when the request is approved or rejected
- Pending approvals appear in your Pending Approvals section in the palette
AI-suggested actions always require approval regardless of their tier, in compliance with PsyBA 2025 requirements. See the AI Agents & Actions guide for details.
Permission Filtering
The palette only shows actions you have permission to execute. A receptionist sees scheduling and client intake actions, while a practice owner sees the full catalogue including billing, compliance, and staff management actions.
| Role | Approximate Actions Visible |
|---|---|
| Practice Owner | All (~2,100) |
| Practitioner | ~1,400 |
| Receptionist | ~600 |
| Intern | ~500 |
| Accountant | ~300 |
Keyboard Navigation
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
Cmd+K | Open palette |
↑ ↓ | Navigate items |
Enter | Select/execute |
Tab | Next parameter field |
Esc | Close palette |
Context Awareness
The palette adapts to your current context. If you are viewing a client record, client-specific actions (e.g., "Create Appointment for [Client Name]") appear first. If you are on the billing page, billing actions are prioritised.
