MYOB Setup

Connect Praxi with MYOB Business to push invoices, payments, and client contacts for streamlined accounting. Praxi's MYOB integration uses a one-way push model with graceful fallback — if MYOB is temporarily unavailable, syncs are queued and retried automatically.

Overview

The MYOB integration:

FeatureDescription
Invoice syncPushes Praxi invoices to MYOB invoices
Payment recordingPushes Praxi payments to MYOB payments
Contact syncPushes Praxi clients to MYOB contacts
Sync historyA log of every sync with status and errors
One-way sync

Data flows from Praxi to MYOB only. Use Praxi as your source of truth for client invoices — creating the same invoices in both systems causes duplicates and reconciliation issues.

Praxi does not import or reconcile data back from MYOB — run bank reconciliation in MYOB itself. Praxi's in-product payment reconciliation (Settings → Integrations → Xero → Reconciliation) is available for the Xero integration only.

Prerequisites

Before connecting MYOB:

RequirementDetails
MYOB subscriptionA cloud-enabled MYOB Business plan
MYOB company fileActive, cloud-enabled company file
Administrator accessMYOB admin login
Praxi permissionsPractice owner or practice manager
AccountRight desktop

If you use AccountRight desktop, your company file must be cloud-enabled (check Setup → Company Information in AccountRight) before Praxi can connect to it.

Connecting MYOB

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations → MYOB
  2. Click Connect MYOB
  3. Sign in with your MYOB credentials and authorise Praxi
  4. When prompted, choose your company file — each file is shown by name; click the one that matches your practice
  5. The connection card shows status Connected with your company file name and last sync time

Changing company files

If you connected the wrong file, or your practice moves to a new company file, click Change Company File on the connection card — no need to disconnect and reconnect.

Connection status

The connection card shows one of three states:

StatusMeaning
ConnectedSyncs are flowing normally
Needs AttentionThe last sync hit an error — details shown on the card
Not ConnectedNo active MYOB connection

Use Test Connection at any time to confirm Praxi can reach MYOB.

Sync Settings

Once connected, the Sync Settings tab controls what syncs and when.

What to sync

ToggleWhat it does
InvoicesPraxi invoices sync to MYOB invoices
PaymentsPraxi payments sync to MYOB payments
Client ContactsPraxi clients sync to MYOB contacts

Sync frequency

OptionBehaviour
AutomaticSyncs immediately when data changes (recommended)
ScheduledSyncs in batches every hour
Manual onlyNothing syncs until you trigger it yourself

Click Save Settings after making changes.

Accounts and GST

Transactions sync to your MYOB company file's default accounts and tax codes. Custom account mapping isn't configurable yet — the Account Mapping section of the Sync Settings tab shows Default Mapping Active in the meantime.

Healthcare GST

Most healthcare services (psychology, counselling, allied health) are GST-free under the GST Act. Review your first few synced invoices in MYOB to confirm the tax treatment is correct before BAS time.

Sync History

The Sync History tab lists every sync attempt with:

ColumnDetail
StatusSuccess, Skipped, or Failed
TypeWhat synced (invoice, payment, contact)
MYOB IDThe record's identifier in MYOB
TimeWhen the sync ran
ErrorThe error message, for failed syncs

If MYOB is temporarily unavailable, Praxi queues sync operations and retries automatically when the connection is restored — failed entries in the history show what needs attention.

Reporting and BAS

Praxi remains your source for service-level detail (revenue by practitioner, client payment history, Medicare/NDIS reports). Use MYOB for whole-of-business reporting once data has synced:

MYOB reportPurpose
Profit & LossRevenue by category
Aged ReceivablesOutstanding invoices
GST SummaryBAS preparation
Bank ReconciliationMatch bank statements

Before each BAS, confirm all invoices have synced (check Sync History for failures), then run MYOB's GST Summary. Most healthcare services report as GST-free sales.

Troubleshooting

Connection failed

If the OAuth sign-in fails:

  1. Verify your MYOB credentials and that your subscription is active
  2. Ensure the company file is cloud-enabled
  3. Try again in a private browser window

Status shows Needs Attention

  1. Read the error on the connection card
  2. Click Test Connection to check whether MYOB is reachable
  3. Check the Sync History tab for the failing records
  4. If the connection has expired, disconnect and reconnect

Duplicate invoices in MYOB

  1. Keep Praxi as the source of truth — don't create client invoices manually in MYOB
  2. Delete the duplicate in MYOB
  3. Praxi's sync history shows whether the invoice already synced

Disconnecting MYOB

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations → MYOB
  2. Click Disconnect and confirm

Disconnecting stops future syncs. Data already synced to MYOB is not deleted, and your sync history is preserved.

Best Practices

  1. Sync invoices and payments together — keeping both toggles on means MYOB always reflects paid status
  2. Use Automatic frequency — records land in MYOB as they're created
  3. Check Sync History weekly — catch failed syncs before BAS time
  4. Verify GST — healthcare services are mostly GST-free
  5. Brief your bookkeeper — make sure whoever manages MYOB knows invoices originate in Praxi
