Practitioner Quick Start: Your First Week

Welcome to Praxi. This guide walks you through the features you will use most as a clinical practitioner, organised as a five-day learning path. Each section links to detailed documentation so you can explore at your own pace.

Day 1 -- Getting Oriented

Start with the essentials: logging in, finding your way around, and understanding your calendar.

  • Log in and complete your profile -- enter your AHPRA registration number, Medicare provider number, and set your working hours. See First Login.
  • Learn the navigation sidebar -- Praxi uses a unified sidebar with four sections: Essentials (always visible), Clinical, Practice, and Development (all collapsible). As a practitioner, you will primarily use the Clinical section (notes, sessions, assessments — clients live in Essentials) and the Development section (CPD, supervision). See Navigation.
  • Explore your calendar -- switch between day, week, and month views to see your schedule at a glance. See Calendar Views.
  • Set up keyboard shortcuts -- speed up daily tasks with the command palette and hotkeys. See Keyboard Shortcuts.

Day 2 -- Sessions and Clinical Notes

Learn how to run a session from start to finish and write compliant clinical notes.

  • Create and manage appointments -- book sessions, set recurring appointments, and handle cancellations. See Creating Appointments.
  • Write clinical notes -- use structured templates and snippets to document sessions efficiently. See Creating Notes.
  • Understand note signing -- notes must be signed within 24 hours as required by AHPRA. Once signed, notes are locked and immutable. See Signing and Compliance.
  • Use note snippets -- save reusable text blocks for common observations, interventions, and treatment plans. See Snippets.

Day 3 -- AI Features and Voice Transcription

Praxi's AI assistant can help with note writing, report drafting and live transcription. It does not suggest diagnoses, rate risk or recommend treatment.

  • Meet the AI agents -- understand how Praxi, Jarvis and Ada support your clinical work. See Agents Overview.
  • Try voice transcription -- record sessions (with client consent) and receive real-time transcripts that feed into your notes. See Voice Transcription.
  • Use AI note assistance -- let Praxi draft note sections from your transcript, then review and refine. See Note Assistance.
  • Know what AI does not do -- Praxi does not analyse sessions for risk. You assess risk and record it yourself. See AI Agents.

Day 4 -- Assessments and Documents

Administer assessments and generate clinical documents without leaving Praxi.

  • Administer assessments -- choose from over 40 validated instruments and send them to clients via the portal. See Assessments Overview.
  • Interpret results -- view scored results with normative comparisons and track progress over time. See Interpreting Results.
  • Generate care plans and reports -- create care plans, GP letters, and referral documents using AI-assisted templates. See Care Plans and GP Letters.
  • Manage client consent -- record and track consent for treatment, recording, and information sharing. See Consent Management.

Day 5 -- Billing Basics and the Client Portal

Understand how billing flows from your sessions and what your clients see in their portal.

  • Review your invoices -- appointments automatically generate invoices based on the client's funding source. See Billing Overview.
  • Understand funding sources -- Medicare, DVA, NDIS, WorkCover, and private billing are all supported natively. See Funding Sources.
  • Manage client records -- keep contact details, referrals, and clinical history up to date. See Client Records.
  • Explore telehealth -- run video sessions directly within Praxi when clients cannot attend in person. See Telehealth Sessions.

Medicare claiming

As a practitioner, you submit Medicare claims for your own clients. Your role lets you:

  • View your own Medicare claims and their status.
  • Create and submit Medicare claims for clients on your caseload.

Day-to-day claiming

After an attended Better Access session, Praxi pre-fills the claim from the appointment and note. From /billing/invoices/[id], choose:

  • Bulk Bill (BBSW) -- the rebate is paid direct to the practice; the client pays nothing. You must capture DB4 consent (verbal, written, or digital) before submitting. DB4 v2.1.4 is mandatory from 1 July 2026.
  • Patient Claim (PCIW) -- the client pays the gap and the rebate is paid to the client. Submission is synchronous, with the assessment returned in the same response.

Every claim must be preceded by an OPVW patient verification -- Praxi runs this automatically the day before the appointment, but re-run it manually if card details have changed.

AI suggestion review

Praxi's AI can suggest MBS items from your note content. Every Medicare write action -- including AI suggestions you act on -- requires your explicit confirmation in the submit sheet. The AI never submits a claim autonomously.

Session-limit visibility

Better Access caps annual MHCP-funded sessions per client. The client's running session count for the calendar year is visible under Profile -> Funding & Referrals on the client record. The system blocks submissions that would exceed the cap.
