Performance Troubleshooting

Slow Page Loading

  1. Check your internet connection speed. Praxi performs best with at least 5 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload.
  2. Hard refresh the page with Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+R (macOS) to clear stale cached assets.
  3. Close unnecessary browser tabs. Each open tab consumes memory and can slow down the active page.
  4. Disable browser extensions temporarily. Ad blockers and privacy extensions can add latency to API requests.
  5. If you are using a VPN, try disconnecting it. Some VPN configurations add significant latency to Australian-hosted services.

Calendar Takes a Long Time to Load

For practices with many practitioners, the calendar view may load slowly when displaying all team members simultaneously.

  • Use the practitioner filter to display only the calendars you need.
  • Switch to a single-day view instead of the weekly view to reduce the number of appointments rendered.
  • If your practice has more than 20 practitioners, consider filtering the calendar to your own schedule for day-to-day use and switching to the team view only when needed.

Client List or Search Is Slow

  • Use specific search terms rather than browsing the full client list. The search index is optimised for name, email, phone, and Medicare number queries.
  • Apply filters (e.g. active clients only) to reduce the result set.
  • Practices with over 5,000 client records may notice slower unfiltered list loads. This is expected; filtered and search queries remain fast.

Memory Issues in the Browser

If your browser becomes unresponsive or shows "out of memory" warnings:

  1. Close other memory-intensive applications.
  2. Limit the number of open Praxi tabs to three or fewer.
  3. Restart your browser periodically during long work sessions.
  4. Chrome users can check memory usage at chrome://memory to identify which tabs are consuming the most resources.

Report Generation Is Slow

Complex financial reports and compliance exports may take longer to generate for large date ranges.

  • Narrow the date range where possible. Monthly reports generate faster than annual reports.
  • Reports with more than 10,000 rows are processed in the background. You will receive a notification when the report is ready to download.
  • Avoid running multiple large reports simultaneously.

Optimising for Large Practices

RecommendationBenefit
Use filters on all list viewsReduces data transferred and rendered.
Schedule bulk operations (invoicing, reminders) during off-peak hoursAvoids contention with interactive users.
Use date range filters on all reportsLimits the number of records loaded and rendered.
Keep browser and OS updatedPerformance improvements are shipped regularly in browser engines.

Mobile Performance

  • On iOS, ensure you have at least 500 MB of free storage. Low storage causes the OS to evict cached data, requiring more network requests.
  • Close background apps to free memory for Praxi.
  • Use Wi-Fi rather than mobile data where possible for a more stable connection.

Contact Support

If performance issues persist after following these steps, contact support at hey@praxi.au and include your browser name, device type, approximate practice size, and which pages are affected.
