AI Features FAQ

Common questions about Praxi's AI assistant, clinical AI features, and related functionality.

General

How do I access the AI chat assistant?

Click the Praxi AI (sparkles) icon in the navigation rail on the left of the screen, or press Cmd+Shift+A (Mac) / Ctrl+Shift+A (Windows) to toggle the AI panel. You can also use the command palette (Cmd+K) and type your question directly. See Chat Assistant for all the ways to open and position the panel.

What can the AI assistant help with?

The assistant can help with:

  • Scheduling -- check your calendar, find availability, book appointments
  • Billing -- invoice queries, Medicare claiming guidance, payment tracking
  • Clinical -- draft notes, generate documents, look up assessment scores
  • Practice help -- step-by-step guides for any Praxi feature
  • Research -- clinical guidelines, MBS item lookup, treatment evidence
  • Analytics -- practice performance, revenue trends, appointment statistics

Does the AI learn from my data?

No. Your practice data is never used to train AI models. Each conversation is processed independently, and no data is shared between practices or used for model improvement.

Is the AI compliant with Australian privacy law?

Yes. All AI processing:

  • Occurs on Australian-hosted infrastructure
  • Complies with the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles
  • Maintains strict tenant isolation between practices
  • Is logged in the audit trail for 7 years (as required under the Privacy Act 1988)
  • Requires client AI consent before processing clinical data

What happens if the AI makes a mistake?

The AI is designed to assist, not replace, professional judgement. All AI-generated content (notes, documents, suggestions) is presented as a draft for your review. You retain full clinical responsibility. If you notice an error:

  1. Edit the content directly in the editor
  2. Click the feedback button on the AI message to report the issue
  3. The feedback helps improve future responses

Subscription and Access

Which AI features are available on my plan?

FeatureStudentEssentialsProEnterprise
Chat assistant (Jarvis + orchestrator)YesYesYesYes
Clinical, Ada, Warren, Brene and Linus agents----YesYes
Unlimited AI (model ceiling override)------Yes

Why can't I access certain AI features?

Possible reasons:

  • Subscription tier -- the feature requires a higher plan
  • AI role not assigned -- ask your practice administrator to check your role permissions in Settings → Role Management
  • Feature disabled -- AI features may be toggled off at the practice level in Settings → AI Settings
  • Client consent missing -- clinical AI features require AI processing consent on the client's record

How do I upgrade my AI capabilities?

Contact your practice owner or go to Settings → Subscription to view upgrade options.

Clinical AI

How does AI note assistance work?

When you write a clinical note, the AI can suggest text based on the session context, appointment details, and your clinical style. See Note Assistance for full details.

Key points:

  • Suggestions appear as you type or on request
  • You choose what to accept, modify, or ignore
  • The AI adapts to your preferred note format (SOAP, DAP, BIRP, etc.)
  • All suggestions are logged for audit purposes

Can I trust AI-generated clinical content?

AI-generated content should always be reviewed and verified before finalising. The AI:

  • Uses the most capable model available for clinical tasks
  • Only presents data from your practice records (never fabricates data)
  • Follows Australian healthcare documentation standards
  • Is designed to support your clinical judgement, not replace it

Does the AI detect or rate risk?

No. Praxi's AI does not analyse notes or sessions for risk, rate risk, write safety plans, suggest diagnoses or recommend treatment. Those decisions stay with you. See What the clinical assistant does not do.

Chat and Voice

Why does the AI say it can't find information?

The assistant only shows data it can actually retrieve from your practice database. If data is unavailable, it will tell you honestly rather than guessing. Common reasons:

  • The information hasn't been entered into Praxi yet
  • You don't have permission to view that data
  • The client doesn't have AI processing consent recorded

Can I use voice to talk to the AI?

You can dictate: click the microphone in the chat composer and your words appear as text for you to check and send. The assistant replies in text; there is no spoken voice conversation. Dictation for clinical notes is covered in Voice Transcription.

Does the AI remember previous conversations?

The AI maintains context within a single conversation session. It does not carry context between separate sessions, though it can access your client records and practice data each time to provide relevant answers.

Why are some responses slow?

The AI uses different model tiers depending on the task:

  • Routine queries (scheduling, help) use fast, efficient models -- responses in 1-2 seconds
  • Clinical tasks (notes, documents, risk) use more capable models -- may take 3-5 seconds
  • Complex analysis (research, detailed reports) use the most capable models -- may take 5-10 seconds

This ensures clinical accuracy where it matters most.

Troubleshooting

The chat panel won't open

  1. Check that AI features are enabled: Settings → AI Settings
  2. Try refreshing the page (Cmd+R / Ctrl+R)
  3. Clear your browser cache if the issue persists
  4. Check that your browser is up to date (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)

The AI gives irrelevant responses

  • Be more specific in your question -- "Show today's appointments for Dr Smith" works better than "show appointments"
  • If you're asking about a specific client, navigate to their profile first so the AI has context

AI-generated documents have missing information

The AI can only use data that exists in the client's record. If a document has gaps:

  1. Check the client's profile for missing details (referral GP, Medicare number, etc.)
  2. Add the missing information
  3. Regenerate the document, or fill in the gaps manually

Clinical AI features require the client to have AI processing consent recorded. To add it:

  1. Open the client's profile
  2. Go to the Consent tab
  3. Record AI Processing consent
  4. Return to the AI feature -- it should now work for that client
