Twilio account setup
Sign up for a Twilio account
- Open twilio.com/try-twilio.
- Use a business email address (we recommend your practice's main mailbox so billing notifications land in the right place).
- Verify the email and the mobile number Twilio asks for.
- When Twilio asks what you plan to build, pick Voice and Reach customers (calls). The questions are for routing your free trial credit; they do not lock you out of other capabilities later.
- Skip the "guided setup" wizards. We will return to the Console after the regulatory bundle is approved.
Twilio gives every new account a small free trial credit. The credit is enough to test the dialler but you'll need to upgrade to a paid account before you can buy your first Australian number.
Submit the Australian regulatory bundle
Australian geographic numbers (02, 03, 07, 08), 1300 numbers and 1800 numbers all require Twilio to verify that your business is real and Australian-based. This is the regulatory bundle. Twilio reviews it manually — typical turnaround is 1–3 business days.
Submit this before you try to buy a number. If you skip ahead the Twilio Console will block the purchase until the bundle is approved.
What Twilio needs
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Australian Business Number (ABN) | Sole traders' ABNs work too. |
| ASIC company extract (where applies) | Pty Ltd / Ltd companies need a current ASIC extract or ATO ABN lookup result. |
| Proof of business address | Recent utility bill or commercial lease in the company name. |
| Authorised representative details | Name, role, DOB, government-issued ID. Usually you. |
| AHPRA registration (if you display it on the line) | Some Twilio reviewers ask for AHPRA evidence if your practice ID claims it. Provide AHPRA number + practitioner name. |
How to submit
- Sign in to the Twilio Console.
- Open Phone Numbers → Regulatory Compliance → Bundles.
- Click Create Regulatory Bundle.
- Pick Australia as the country and Local for the number type. Repeat for National if you also plan to buy a 1300/1800.
- Pick your entity type (Individual / Sole Trader / Business).
- Upload the documents listed above. Twilio displays exactly which formats each field accepts (PDF / PNG / JPG).
- Submit the bundle.
Twilio emails the authorised representative when the bundle is approved (or rejected with a reason). Approved bundles are reusable across multiple numbers — you only need one per number type per legal entity.
What to do while you wait
- Create the Standard API Key Praxi will use. You can create the key before any numbers are purchased.
- Decide your opening hours and reception number, and which AHPRA disclosure template suits your state. See Call handling and voicemail and Compliance and recording.
