Practice Phone — getting started
The Practice Phone Suite turns Praxi into your practice telephony platform: visual call-routing flows, forwarding to your practice number, browser softphone, voicemail capture, AHPRA-aligned consent scripts, and full client-record attribution. Calls are answered by your team, not by AI.
The Bring-Your-Own-Twilio model
Praxi runs Practice Phone on a Bring-Your-Own-Twilio (BYO) model — you sign up for a Twilio account, complete the Australian regulatory bundle, buy your number from Twilio, then connect your account to Praxi via a restricted API Key. Praxi never sells you a phone number or charges per minute.
We chose BYO over a Praxi-managed reseller model because:
- Australian regulatory-bundle requirements (ABN, proof of address, AHPRA where applicable) make reseller arrangements impractical at our scale.
- You keep ownership of the Twilio account, the numbers, the call data and the per-minute billing relationship.
- If you ever leave Praxi, your phone numbers stay with you.

The five steps to first call
- Sign up at twilio.com — see Twilio account setup.
- Submit the Australian regulatory bundle — typically 1–3 business days for Twilio to approve. Start this as soon as your account is active.
- Buy or port your AU number — see Buying a number.
- Create a Standard API Key — see API Key creation.
- Connect Praxi — see Connect to Praxi.
After the connect step lands, the rest of the Practice Phone surfaces (call handling, routing, softphone, voicemails, recordings) become available under Settings → AI Phone.
