Telehealth on iOS

Praxi supports telehealth sessions directly from the iOS app. Join secure video calls with clients, manage audio and camera, and write up your clinical note immediately after the session ends.

Joining a Session

  1. Open the appointment from your calendar or the home screen.
  2. Tap the Join Telehealth button (visible for appointments with a telehealth session type).
  3. Grant camera and microphone permissions if prompted (first time only).
  4. The app connects to the secure video room. A "Connecting..." screen is displayed while the session is being set up.
Jitsi Integration Telehealth sessions use Jitsi, self-hosted by Praxi

for privacy and compliance. The video call runs within the app via an embedded web view — no separate app installation is required. :::

In-Session Controls

Once connected, the call controls appear as an overlay at the bottom of the screen:

  • Mute/Unmute -- Toggle your microphone. The button turns red when muted.
  • Camera on/off -- Toggle your video feed. The button turns red when the camera is off.
  • End call -- The red end-call control in the floating pill ends the session for all participants.

A status bar at the top of the screen shows:

  • Connection indicator -- A green dot confirming you are connected.
  • Call duration -- Elapsed time displayed in hours, minutes, and seconds.

After the Session

When the call ends, a Call Ended screen appears showing the session duration. You are offered two options:

  • Write Clinical Note -- Opens the note editor pre-linked to the appointment, so you can document the session while details are fresh.
  • Done -- Returns you to your previous screen.
Post-Session Notes Take advantage of the Write Clinical Note prompt

immediately after ending a telehealth session. The appointment context is automatically linked, saving you time. :::

Audio Routing

iOS handles audio routing automatically. For the best experience:

OutputBest For
iPhone earpiecePrivate conversations in shared spaces
SpeakerHands-free when you are alone
AirPods/BluetoothWireless convenience, best audio quality
Wired headsetReliable low-latency audio

Use the iOS Control Centre to switch audio output during a call.

Connection Issues

If the connection fails, an error screen appears with:

  • A description of the issue
  • A Try Again button to re-attempt the connection
  • A Dismiss button to close the telehealth view
Network Requirements Telehealth sessions require a stable internet

connection. Wi-Fi is recommended. If you experience poor video quality, check your connection speed or switch to a different network. :::

Background Behaviour

iOS may suspend or terminate background processes during an active call. Avoid leaving the app or locking your screen during a telehealth session to maintain a stable connection.
