Telehealth Setup & Requirements

Praxi supports telehealth sessions through integrated video platforms. This guide covers platform options, browser requirements, client instructions, and troubleshooting.

Supported Platforms

Praxi integrates with three video platforms:

PlatformHostingBest For
JitsiSelf-hostedFull integration, no client download
ZoomZoom cloudClients already familiar with Zoom
CoviuCoviu cloudAustralian telehealth-specific features
Jitsi Recommended Jitsi is Praxi's recommended platform. It runs in the

browser with no downloads required, integrates with the digital waiting room, and is self-hosted for maximum privacy. :::

Browser Requirements

For the best telehealth experience:

  • Google Chrome (version 90+) -- Recommended for all platforms
  • Microsoft Edge (version 90+) -- Fully supported
  • Mozilla Firefox (version 85+) -- Supported for Jitsi and Coviu
  • Safari (version 14+) -- Supported with some limitations on screen sharing

Client Instructions

When a telehealth appointment is booked, the client receives:

  1. Appointment confirmation email with a telehealth link
  2. Reminder email (configurable, default 24 hours before) with the same link
  3. SMS reminder (if enabled) with a shortened link

Clients click the link at the appointment time and enter the virtual waiting room. No account creation or software download is required when using Jitsi.

To customise the client instructions included in telehealth emails, configure your appointment reminder templates in Settings > Telehealth.

Waiting Room

The telehealth waiting room provides a buffer between the client joining and the session starting:

  • Clients see a branded waiting screen with your practice name
  • Audio and video are tested automatically
  • The practitioner is notified when the client arrives
  • The practitioner clicks Start session to begin the session

The waiting room is enabled by default and can be configured in Settings > Telehealth > Waiting Room. You can customise the branded waiting screen and manage admission settings.

Telehealth sessions have two separate consent types:

  1. Recording consent -- Required to record the session video/audio. Praxi displays a consent prompt when recording is initiated. Both parties must acknowledge the recording
  2. AI transcription consent -- Required to use voice transcription and AI note generation during the session. This is separate from recording consent and follows the same consent workflow as in-person transcription

Both consent types are tracked in the session record with timestamps for audit compliance.

Australian Recording Laws Recording consent requirements vary by state

and territory. In most Australian jurisdictions, all parties must consent to being recorded. Praxi's consent prompt helps you meet this obligation, but ensure you understand the specific requirements in your jurisdiction. :::
