Delivery Modes

Every Client Tool assignment has a delivery mode. The mode describes who fills the tool, when, and together or separately. Mode is orthogonal to library kind — forms, measures, trackers, practices, and programmes can ship in any mode, though some pairings make more sense than others.

Delivery mode becomes immutable after the first client response (any mode). If you need to change mode on an already-responded assignment, the UI will offer to clone and resend. This preserves signature integrity under the Electronic Transactions Act 1999.

Practitioner-only

You complete the tool yourself; the client never sees it. Typical uses: structured case formulation, supervision log, risk assessment draft, internal clinical checklist.

  • Client notification: none.
  • Portal visibility: the tool does not appear in My Plan.
  • When it wins: you need a structured template to think in. You are not asking the client for anything.

Practitioner-led

You fill the tool while the client watches a read-only mirror — in-person or in a telehealth session. Typical uses: collaborative safety planning, in-session body-chart annotation, live genogram construction.

  • Client notification: “Your practitioner is showing you something” when the mirror opens.
  • Portal visibility: the client sees the tool live, read-only, during the session. They retain view access afterwards unless you archive.
  • Add a note: the client can leave a text note that attaches to the assignment without editing the tool fields themselves.
  • When it wins: clinical expertise drives the content but the client needs to see the thinking in real time.

Client-self-serve

The client fills the tool in the portal on their own time. This is the default mode for worksheets, intake forms, outcome measures, trackers, and most practices.

  • Client notification: email and/or push plus an in-portal card when you assign (for example “Alex sent you something to complete”).
  • Portal visibility: appears in the client’s My Plan until completed (or removed).
  • Reminders: overdue reminders fire when the due date passes; completion notifies you.
  • Client message: optional text you set at allocate time appears as “From your practitioner” on the plan item.
  • When it wins: the default. Any content the client can complete without live guidance.

Collaborative-live

Both parties edit simultaneously. Field-level sync shows who is editing which field; edits appear for the other person within a fraction of a second. Reconnection replays recent changes so a short dropout does not lose work.

  • Experience: same renderer as client-self-serve for the tool, plus lock indicators and presence.
  • Not full multi-cursor co-editing: one party edits a given field at a time; the other waits for the lock to clear.
  • When it wins: real-time couples work, joint goal-setting, any situation where the client and practitioner are simultaneously shaping the same document.

Locking after first response

Once the client submits even a partial response, the delivery mode is locked. If you try to change mode, Praxi offers Clone and resend — a new assignment is created so the original response history stays intact.
