Accessibility Features

Praxi is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at the AA conformance level. We are committed to ensuring the application is usable by practitioners and staff of all abilities.

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements in Praxi are fully accessible via keyboard:

  • Tab -- Move focus to the next interactive element.
  • Shift + Tab -- Move focus to the previous interactive element.
  • Enter -- Activate the focused element (buttons, links, menu items).
  • Escape -- Close modals, drawers, dropdowns, and cancel operations.
  • Arrow keys -- Navigate within menus, calendar views, and table rows.
Press Ctrl + K (or Cmd + K on macOS) to open the command palette,

which provides keyboard-driven access to all major features and navigation. :::

Focus Indicators

Praxi displays visible focus indicators on all interactive elements to help you track your position when navigating with a keyboard. Focus rings appear as a visible outline around the currently focused element.

These indicators are always visible when navigating via keyboard and are suppressed during mouse interaction to avoid visual clutter.

Screen Reader Support

Praxi is tested with the following screen readers:

Screen ReaderPlatformStatus
VoiceOvermacOS / iOSSupported
NVDAWindowsSupported
JAWSWindowsSupported

All interface elements include appropriate ARIA labels, roles, and live regions. Dynamic content updates (such as notifications and form validation messages) are announced to screen readers automatically.

Reduced Motion

Praxi respects the prefers-reduced-motion operating system setting. When enabled:

  • Page transitions and animations are disabled or minimised.
  • Loading indicators use static alternatives where possible.
  • No content depends solely on animation to convey meaning.

To enable reduced motion:

  • macOS: System Settings > Accessibility > Display > Reduce motion.
  • iOS: Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Reduce Motion.
  • Windows: Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects > Animation effects (off).

Touch Targets

All interactive elements meet a minimum touch target size of 44x44 pixels, in accordance with WCAG 2.2 AA requirements. This ensures comfortable interaction on touch devices including tablets used in clinical settings.

High Contrast Support

Praxi uses semantic colour tokens that adapt to your system's contrast preferences. For users who require additional contrast:

  • Praxi's default theme meets WCAG AA contrast ratios for all text.
  • The interface respects the prefers-contrast: more media query where supported.
  • All icons and visual indicators include text labels or tooltips for clarity.

Font Sizing

Praxi uses relative font sizes that scale with your browser's text size settings:

  1. Open your browser settings.
  2. Adjust the default font size or zoom level.
  3. Praxi's layout will adapt accordingly.

All layouts are designed to remain functional at up to 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
