Signing In with a Passkey

A passkey is the recommended way to sign in to Praxi. It replaces typing a password and a six-digit code with one quick check on your device.

What a Passkey Is

A passkey lives on your device or in your password manager. You unlock it with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, your device PIN or a security key.

  • It counts as full two-factor authentication. Praxi always asks your device to check it's you, so a passkey covers both steps.
  • It can't be phished. A passkey only works on Praxi, so a fake sign-in page can't use it.
  • Nothing to remember. There's no code to type.
  • It all happens in Praxi. Setting up and using a passkey never sends you to another company's sign-in page.

An authenticator app and recovery codes stay available as fallbacks. See Two-Factor Authentication.

Before You Start

You need one of these:

  • An iPhone or iPad on a current version of iOS
  • A Mac with Touch ID, or any Mac with an iPhone nearby
  • A Windows PC with Windows Hello
  • An Android phone
  • A hardware security key
  • A password manager that stores passkeys, such as iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager or 1Password

Passkeys saved to iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager or 1Password sync to your other devices signed in to the same account. Praxi shows these as Synced.

Set Up a Passkey on the Web

The first time you secure your account:

  1. When Praxi asks you to secure your account, choose Create a passkey.
  2. Follow your device's prompt.
  3. Save the recovery codes Praxi shows you. You get these whether your first method is a passkey or an authenticator app.

To add another passkey:

  1. Go to Settings > Security.
  2. Under Passkeys, click Add a passkey.
  3. Confirm it's you when Praxi asks.
  4. Follow your device's prompt.

Praxi emails you each time a passkey is added to your account.

Set Up a Passkey on iPhone

In the Praxi practitioner app:

  1. Tap More > Security > Passkeys.
  2. Tap Add a passkey.
  3. Confirm it's you when asked, then approve with Face ID or Touch ID.

The passkey saves to your iCloud Keychain, so it also works on your other Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

Sign In with a Passkey

On the web:

  1. Go to app.praxi.au.
  2. Click Continue with a passkey.
  3. Choose your passkey and confirm it's you.

You don't need to type your email or password. Your browser may also offer your passkey when you click into the email field.

On iPhone:

  1. Open the Praxi app.
  2. Tap Continue with a passkey.
  3. Approve with Face ID or Touch ID.

After a password: if you sign in with your email and password, Praxi asks for your second step. Use your passkey there too.

Manage Your Passkeys

Go to Settings > Security on the web, or More > Security > Passkeys in the iPhone app. For each passkey you can see:

  • its name, such as the device you created it on
  • whether it's synced
  • when you last used it

You can:

  • Rename a passkey so you can tell them apart.
  • Remove a passkey you no longer use, or one on a lost device.

Before you add or remove a passkey, Praxi asks you to confirm it's you. Praxi emails you when a passkey is removed.

warning

If your practice requires MFA, you can't remove your last sign-in method. Add another passkey or an authenticator app first.

If You Lose a Device

Sign in with another passkey, your authenticator code or a recovery code. Then add a new passkey and remove the lost one. Full steps: Lost Passkey or Device.
