Commission & Payouts
Praxi supports flexible commission and payout structures for practices with contractor or employee practitioners. Configure commission rates, generate payout reports, and manage split billing arrangements.
Commission Rates
Set up commission structures at Staff > Commission:
- Click Add Commission Structure
- Name the structure (e.g., "Senior Practitioner Rate")
- Set the commission type:
- Percentage of revenue -- Practitioner receives a percentage of collected fees
- Fixed per session -- Flat rate per completed appointment
- Tiered -- Percentage changes based on revenue thresholds
- Set the rate or amounts
- Assign to one or more practitioners
- Save
| Commission Type | Example | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Percentage | 70% of collected revenue | Most contractor arrangements |
| Fixed per session | $80 per session | Consistent payout regardless of fee |
| Tiered | 60% up to $10k/month, 70% above | Incentivising higher throughput |
Commission is typically calculated on collected revenue (after payment is received), not invoiced amounts. This protects the practice from paying commission on unpaid invoices. :::
Payout Schedules
Praxi tracks commission entries as sessions complete. Paying practitioners happens through your payroll process on your own schedule -- review entries at Staff > Commission, bulk-approve them, and mark them paid once processed.
Commission Reports
Generate payout reports from Staff > Commission:
- Practitioner earnings -- Revenue collected and commission owed per practitioner
- Pending amounts -- Approved commission awaiting payment
Export reports as PDF or CSV for your accountant or payroll provider.
Contractor vs Employee
| Aspect | Contractor | Employee |
|---|---|---|
| Commission | Percentage of revenue | Salary + optional bonus |
| Tax | Contractor invoices practice (GST may apply) | PAYG withheld by practice |
| Super | May or may not apply (check ATO guidelines) | Mandatory super guarantee |
| Leave | Not applicable | Managed via leave module |
The distinction between contractor and employee is determined by the nature of the working arrangement, not the label. Refer to the ATO's contractor vs employee guidelines to ensure your arrangements are correctly classified. :::
Split Billing
For sessions where revenue is split between practitioners (e.g., a supervising practitioner and a registrar):
- Open the invoice
- Click Split Billing
- Assign a percentage or fixed amount to each practitioner
- Commission calculations respect the split
Who can manage commission and payouts
Practitioners and other staff can view their own commission data and payout history. Practice owners and practice managers configure commission structures, set payout schedules, and process payouts across the practice. Accountants also have read access to staff compensation data for payroll and financial reporting purposes.
