Exercise Prescriptions
Praxi includes an exercise prescription module for allied health professionals who prescribe movement-based interventions — physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation practitioners.
Overview
Exercise prescriptions let you build structured exercise programmes from a template library, assign them to clients, and manage them over time.
| Capability | Description |
|---|---|
| Exercise template library | Searchable library of exercises with descriptions, difficulty levels, and tags |
| Programme builder | Assemble exercises into a structured programme with per-exercise parameters |
| Sets, reps, and parameters | Configure sets, repetitions, duration, holds, rest periods, and progressions |
| Lifecycle management | Pause, resume, complete, or cancel programmes |
Getting Started
Creating an Exercise Programme
- Navigate to Exercise Rx in the sidebar
- Click Create Programme
- Enter a programme name (e.g., "Lower Back Rehabilitation — Phase 1")
- Select the client and add exercises from the template library, or write custom exercises
- Configure parameters for each exercise (see below)
- Set the programme-level frequency (e.g., "3 times per week"), duration, and any general instructions
- Save — the programme is created as Active and immediately current for the client
Configuring Exercise Parameters
For each exercise in the programme, you can set:
| Parameter | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Sets | Number of sets | 3 |
| Repetitions | Number of reps per set | 12 |
| Duration | Time-based alternative to reps | 30 seconds |
| Hold | Hold time for stretches and isometrics | 10 seconds |
| Rest period | Rest between sets | 60 seconds |
| Progressions | When and how to progress | Increase weight by 1 kg each week |
| Instructions | Specific instructions or modifications | Avoid full range if pain above 4/10 |
| Media | An image or video link for the exercise | Demonstration video |
Prescription Status
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Active | Currently prescribed and being followed by the client |
| Paused | Temporarily on hold (e.g., during illness or travel) |
| Completed | Programme finished, client has reached the end date |
| Cancelled | Programme discontinued before completion |
Only Active programmes can be paused, and only Paused programmes can be resumed. Record overall adherence as a percentage on the programme as you review it with the client.
Exercise Template Library
The template library contains exercises organised by category, difficulty (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), and tags. Each template carries a description, instructions, and optional image or video links.
You can add custom exercise templates with your own descriptions and instructions, or duplicate an existing template as a starting point. Templates you create are available to all practitioners in your organisation.
