Functional Pathology Orders

Order functional medicine pathology tests, track their status, and review results within Praxi. This feature streamlines the lab ordering workflow for integrative and functional medicine practitioners.

Feature Availability Functional Pathology is available for practices

with the feature enabled in their profession configuration. It is most commonly used by naturopaths, integrative medicine practitioners, and functional medicine specialists. :::

Overview

The Functional Pathology page provides a centralised view of all lab orders across your practice. Each order tracks:

  • Order ID -- unique identifier for the order
  • Client -- the client being tested
  • Tests -- the specific pathology tests ordered
  • Lab -- the laboratory processing the order
  • Status -- current stage in the workflow
  • Date -- when the order was placed

Creating an Order

  1. Navigate to Clinical > Pathology in the sidebar
  2. Click New Order
  3. Select the client and the ordering practitioner
  4. Choose the test from the common test panels (for example DUTCH, organic acids, comprehensive stool analysis) or enter a test name
  5. Select the laboratory from the list of Australian providers (Nutripath, Australian Clinical Labs, QML, Sullivan Nicolaides, and others) or choose Other
  6. (Optional) Record the clinical indication, fasting requirement, specimen type (blood, urine, saliva, stool, hair, or breath), and priority (routine or urgent)
  7. Submit the order

Order Status Workflow

Recording Results

When results come back from the laboratory, record them in Praxi:

  1. Open the pathology order
  2. Click Record Results
  3. Enter individual biomarker results with:
    • Biomarker name (e.g., "Vitamin D (25-OH)")
    • Value and unit
    • Reference range (optional)
    • Flag: Normal, Low, High, Critical Low, or Critical High
  4. Add an overall interpretation summarising the clinical significance
  5. Save the results

Flag each biomarker as you record it (normal, high, low, or critical) so abnormalities stand out at a glance.

Use the status filter tabs to view orders by stage (All, Ordered, Collected, Processing, Resulted, Reviewed). The search bar filters across all order fields.

Integration with Clinical Records

Pathology results can be referenced in clinical notes and care plans. Record your clinical interpretation in the order's overall interpretation when entering results, and mark the order Reviewed once you have assessed it.
