Submit patient-paid Medicare claims

Certification in progress

Praxi is completing Services Australia conformance testing for Medicare Online Claiming. Production claiming becomes available once Services Australia grants the Notice of Integration (NOI). This page describes how the workflow operates so your practice can prepare; we will update it when certification completes.

Use a patient-paid claim when the client pays your fee and receives a Medicare rebate. Confirm Medicare setup is finished for the practitioner and location first. Check Medicare details, MBS items and any required referral before claiming.

Submit the claim

  1. Open the service's invoice from Finance > Invoices or its appointment.
  2. Record the client's payment as appropriate for the service.
  3. Choose Submit Medicare claim.
  4. Choose Fully Paid (Patient) or Part Paid (Patient) to match the payment.
  5. Review the verification result, service items and gap shown in the panel.
  6. Complete any claimant details requested, resolve validation messages and select Submit Claim.

DB4 assignment of benefit applies to bulk billing; you do not collect it for a patient-paid claim. Do not promise payment based only on successful submission.

Follow up the result

Open Finance > Claims and choose Medicare to track the claim. If the claim needs further information, follow the instructions shown in its result. For a rejection, read the returned reason and use Medicare claiming errors before resubmitting.
