Record bulk-bill consent
Praxi is completing Services Australia conformance testing for Medicare Online Claiming. Production claiming becomes available once Services Australia grants the Notice of Integration (NOI). This page describes the workflow so your practice can prepare.
Record the client's assignment of benefit (DB4) before every bulk-billed claim. This applies to Praxi's PRODA, your own PRODA and Tyro. A practice bulk billing agreement or consent to a patient check does not replace DB4.
Record consent before submitting
- Open the service's invoice and choose Submit Medicare claim.
- Choose Bulk Bill in the claim panel.
- Review Assignment of Benefit Consent (DB4) with the client or their authorised representative.
- Choose the method that matches the consent actually given:
| Option | What you record |
|---|---|
| Consent checkbox | The client ticks the assignment confirmation. |
| Patient types their name | The client enters their name. |
| Verbal confirmation | You attest to the client's verbal agreement. |
| Patient unable to sign | You record the person consenting, their relationship and the required reason. |
- Complete the fields shown for that method, then submit the claim. Praxi records the consent before sending the bulk-bill claim.
Verbal assignment is accepted for services through 30 June 2027. Use a digital method for services from 1 July 2027.
Assign before the service
Pre-service assignment is available for MBS items in the published MBS Online Basic Service Description list. Review the Date of service and Basic service description with the client before recording consent. The basic service description comes from the published list rather than the invoice line description.
If an item has no published basic service description, record a post-service assignment instead. If the service date changes, a service is added, or a rendered service falls outside the description agreed beforehand, obtain a new post-service assignment before claiming.
Check existing consent and provide a receipt
If the panel shows Consent already captured for this client, check that the assignment covers the service you are claiming. Praxi can reuse a valid consent record; this does not remove the need for consent before every claim. Select Patient receipt (DB4) when available to download the client's copy. If consent was captured in error, use Retract consent before lodgement and record a reason before capturing fresh consent.
Claim through Tyro
Use the same invoice claim panel and DB4 section. Praxi records the consent before routing the claim through Tyro. Tyro connection setup does not collect the client's assignment for a service.
