NDIS Behaviour Support
Praxi supports behaviour support practitioners working under the NDIS with tools for creating behaviour support plans (BSPs), documenting restricted practices, and meeting NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission reporting requirements.
Behaviour Support Plans
Creating a BSP
- Go to Behaviour Support > Participants, select the participant, and click New BSP
- Complete the plan sections:
- Participant details -- Name, NDIS number, support coordinator
- Functional behaviour assessment -- Setting events, triggers, maintaining consequences
- Behaviour of concern -- Description, frequency, severity, impact
- Replacement behaviours -- Functionally equivalent alternatives
- Strategies -- Proactive, active, and reactive strategies
- Restricted practices (if applicable) -- See below
- Implementation guidance -- Instructions for support workers
- Review schedule -- Dates for interim and formal review
- Save as draft or submit for review
BSPs involving restricted practices must be submitted to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Praxi tracks this submission requirement and flags plans that need lodgement. :::
Restricted Practices
If a BSP includes the use of restricted practices, additional documentation is required.
Restricted Practice Types
| Practice | Definition |
|---|---|
| Seclusion | Sole confinement in a room or area the person cannot freely leave |
| Chemical restraint | Medication to control behaviour (not therapeutic) |
| Mechanical restraint | Device to restrict movement |
| Physical restraint | Body contact to restrict movement |
| Environmental restraint | Restricting access to environment or objects |
Documentation Requirements
For each restricted practice, record:
- Justification and evidence base
- Least restrictive alternatives considered
- Consent obtained (participant, guardian, or nominee)
- Fade-out plan with target dates
- Monthly usage data (frequency, duration, outcome)
Functional Behaviour Assessments
Before creating a BSP, conduct a Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA):
- Go to Behaviour Support > Participants, select the participant, and open their BSP
- Click New FBA
- Document the assessment findings including antecedents, behaviours, and consequences
- Link the FBA to the subsequent BSP
Incident Reporting
Record and track behavioural incidents:
- Go to Behaviour Support > Participants, select the participant, and open their BSP
- Click Log Incident
- Record the date, time, location, participants involved, and incident description
- Note the response taken and outcome
- Link to the relevant BSP and restricted practice (if applicable)
Observations
Document direct behavioural observations:
- Go to Behaviour Support > Participants, select the participant, and open their BSP
- Click New Observation
- Record observation data including frequency, duration, and context
- Link observations to specific behaviours of concern in the BSP
Stakeholder Management
Track all stakeholders involved in a participant's behaviour support:
- Go to Behaviour Support > Participants, select the participant, and open their BSP
- Add support coordinators, family members, support workers, and other relevant parties
- Record their role and contact details
Training Records
Track training provided to support workers and carers:
- Go to Behaviour Support > Participants and open the relevant participant's record
- Record training sessions delivered, attendees, and topics covered
- Link training to specific BSPs and implementation plans
NDIS Reporting
Praxi generates the reports required by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission:
- Interim BSP report -- Due within one month of commencing behaviour support
- Comprehensive BSP -- Due within six months
- Monthly restricted practice reports -- Required while restricted practices are in use
- Annual review -- BSP review and outcomes summary
- Compliance deadline tracking -- Automated monitoring of all reporting deadlines
Generate these reports from within the Behaviour Support module.
BSP Quality Assessment
Praxi includes a quality scoring system for behaviour support plans, checking that all required components are present and adequately documented before submission.
NDIS Billing Integration
Behaviour support sessions can be linked to NDIS support items for billing:
- Map sessions to the correct NDIS support item codes
- Track billable hours against participant plan budgets
- Generate NDIS-compliant invoices
Practitioner Development
Track the professional development of behaviour support practitioners:
- Record qualifications and training
- Monitor compliance with NDIS practitioner requirements
- Plan continuing professional development activities
Role Requirements
The behaviour_support_practitioner role in Praxi grants access to BSP-specific
features. This role is intended for practitioners who hold current NDIS
behaviour support practitioner registration.
