Add a provider to Medicare claiming

Praxi is completing Services Australia conformance testing for Medicare Online Claiming. Production claiming becomes available once Services Australia grants the Notice of Integration (NOI). This page describes the workflow so your practice can prepare.

Each practitioner needs the provider number issued for the location where they claim. A number or HW027 for another practitioner or location does not cover them.

Before you start​

  • Confirm Medicare setup is finished for your existing practice, or continue that wizard for first-time setup.
  • Obtain the practitioner's issued Medicare provider number for each location.
  • Ask an owner or manager to add the number if you cannot manage Medicare settings.

Add the number​

  1. Open Settings > Medicare > Provider numbers and select Add provider number.
  2. Choose the Practitioner, Profession and Location.
  3. Select the Medicare Provider type and enter the issued Provider number.
  4. Complete Effective from and any other applicable fields.
  5. Select Add provider number and resolve any validation message.
  6. Repeat for every location where the practitioner will claim.

During initial setup, use Practitioners and provider numbers in the wizard.

Lodge the new provider's HW027​

For Praxi's PRODA or your own PRODA, return to HW027 for each provider number in the setup wizard. Download the new provider's prefilled form for each location, have that practitioner sign and email it, then record lodgement. Follow Lodge an HW027.

Wait for the provider-location link to be processed and complete the required patient check in Check and go live. Saving the number alone does not make the new practitioner ready to claim.
