Medicare claiming

Certification in progress

Praxi is completing Services Australia conformance testing for Medicare Online Claiming. Production claiming becomes available once Services Australia grants the Notice of Integration (NOI). This page describes how the workflow operates so your practice can prepare; we will update it when certification completes.

Use Medicare claiming from a service's invoice. Medicare can pay your practice for a bulk-billed service, or assess a patient-paid claim for a client's rebate.

Before you start

Confirm Medicare setup is finished for the practitioner and location. Check the client's Medicare details, your location-specific provider number, the MBS item and any required referral.

Choose a claim type

  1. Open the invoice and choose Submit Medicare claim.
  2. Review the client, practitioner and service details.
  3. Choose Bulk Bill, Fully Paid (Patient) or Part Paid (Patient).
  4. Complete the required fields and resolve the messages shown before submitting.

For a bulk bill, record DB4 consent before each claim. Verbal assignment is accepted for services through 30 June 2027; use a digital method for services from 1 July 2027. These rules also apply to claims through Tyro.

Follow Submit your first bulk-bill claim or Take a patient-paid Medicare claim for the steps for your claim type.

Track and resolve claims

Open Finance > Claims and choose Medicare. Rejected and unsent claims appear under Needs action. Read the returned reason before deciding whether to correct and resubmit or bill the client privately.

Session limits

Review the client's session usage and the applicable MBS item requirements before claiming. Resolve any session-limit message in the claim panel. See Medicare claiming errors.

Payment report

Compare the payment result with your bank records using Medicare reports. Submission or approval is separate from payment.

Adjust your setup

Use Settings > Medicare for configuration. To switch between Praxi's PRODA, your own PRODA and Tyro, follow Change how your practice claims.
