Private health fund claims

Ask your health fund whether your extras policy covers your practitioner and treatment, including waiting periods, annual limits and the rebate amount. Cover varies by profession, provider and policy.

Your practice can tell you whether it offers direct health fund claiming. Otherwise, use your itemised receipt to claim through your fund's app or website. Find invoices and receipts in Billing in the portal.

The gap is the fee less your fund's rebate. You cannot claim both Medicare and private health insurance for the same service. Check which funding to use before claiming.

For a rejected or missing rebate, contact your fund and ask your practice to check the receipt details. Ask the practice about a fee refund, and tell your fund if a receipt already used for a claim is refunded.
